Learning points from devotion on 3rd November:
Read about a women wearing a pure white dress into a coal mine.
The miners warned her that if she’s going to enter with a white dress, it will not be as white when she comes out.
It is because the coal rubs off with the dress, that’s why it would not be as white.
Teaches me on the impact of influence around me.
If I choose to mix with people of not so good influence, no better how good my foundation, how pure I would like to say, here or there I will be influenced in some ways, either in behavior, in how we think, or what we do or receive into our mind.
This is why we should hang out with Godly influence, but at the same time we shouldn’t leave out these “bad influence”, instead we should be mindful about what we do instead if we choose to get near those bad influences .
Learning points from devotion on 4th November:
it was on Romans 8:28.
There was this painter, who was very famous at his time, his name were Norman Rockwell. One of his painting depicts a boy who sees a baseball game through a knothole on the fence .
So for this boy, he could only see a very small area of the game, compared to those who was sitting in the stadium, who were able to see the “whole” game.
Its trying to tell me that I’m just like this boy, in my life, I can only see the past and the present, but God is like those people who sits in the stadium who can see the “whole” game.
So i have learnt that when I’m faced with some “difficult” choices to make, maybe it may be a very right choice, but if I make it, it will bring me immediate benefit or satisfaction, but I think I will learnt to pray to God about it, learn to lean onto God instead of relying on myself because only God sees the whole “game”.
Learning points from devotion on 5th November:
today I learnt about this guy, who have never seen a mirror before. Therefore he tried to ask the “person” in the mirror to play with him, but the “person” kept imitating him, therefore the guy were so angry, he tried to punch the “person”, in the end, the mirror shattered and he injured his hand.
This is trying to tell us about having self- control, in this case, to control yourself in terms of being angry. For those who chose not to release forgivnesss, they themselves will be the one getting hurt most, just like the guy that I read about.
For me I learnt that self-control can be applied to other areas, like for people who commit sins even when they are Christians. Without self-control to abstain from sins, they themselves will be hurt most in a sense they would have this obstacle between them and God, they would suffer from the guilt everytime they commit sin.
Learning points from devotion on 7th November:
Today I read about the different types of fear, phobias etc..
So I learnt about instead of having fear. We should learn to trust in the Lord. And I know, when we earnestly seek Him, He will be there. He’s always there.
Instead of letting our fears control us, we should pray, like what phil 4:6-7 says. Its also part of self-control.
Learning points from devotion on 8th November:
Today is also about having self control. That when we control ourselves, we can be clear-minded to pray, to listen out, to be sensitive towards God.
There are people in this world whom can resist temptations in the world, one good eg is Jesus whom remained hungry even when the devils tempts Him.
That is when He also focuses more on God, and likewise we should do so. God values and commands self-control too. That is why we should have self-control too, whether in things we say, do, or think, because God takes sins very seriously!
